Enterprise at Rivermead
In April one of our learners entered into a Jamie Oliver Competition for students aged between 14 -19 years old studying towards a Pearson BTEC in Home Cooking Skills.
Jamie S, of Dragonflies Form Group, entered the competition as an individual entry and designed and made a 3 course meal from scratch. Jamie had no help from staff to create a Tomato and Mozzarella Tart to start, followed by Chorizo and Chicken Paella, and finished off with Chocolate Orange Crownies. Yum!
Mrs Lusted who was overseeing safe practice during cooking, says: ‘Jamie was very confident and very organised. He knew what equipment he needed and he followed the recipes to the letter. He looked and behaved like a professional chef. I was impressed and proud of him.’
Jamie Oliver himself chose the winners and runners up from hundreds of entries, and our Jamie came in as a runner up and received a signed book from Jamie Oliver. On Thursday 16th July Rivermead is welcoming the press to come and interview Jamie S about his entry and prize.
Jamie S says: ‘I can’t believe I got a place in the runners up. It’s been an amazing experience. I loved every minute of it’.
Following this, Jamie did his work experience placement at The Barn Restaurant in Rainham. The chef’s commented it was clear to them he had a passion for cooking.
